Famous for something he won't even remember! Can't you see how much better off he'll be, growing up away from all that until he's ready to take it?" (PS1)

To Harry: "It does not do to dwell on dreams, and forget to live, rememeber that." (PS12)

"After all, to the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure." (PS17)

"The truth is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with great caution." (PS 17)

From Chamber of Secrets:

To Harry: "It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities." (CoS18)

From Prisoner of Azkaban:

To Harry: "You think the dead we loved ever truly leave us? You don't think we recall them more clearly than ever in times of great trouble? Your father is alive in you, Harry, and shows himself plainly when you have need of him. How else could you produce that particular Patronus? Prongs rode again last night." (PoA22)

From Goblet of Fire:

Dumbledore looked very intensely at Harry for a moment, and then said, "I have a theory, no more than that ...It is my belief that your scar hurts both when Lord Voldemort is near you, and when he is feeling a particularly strong surge of hatred."

"But ... why?"

"Because you and he are connected by the curse that failed," said Dumbledore. "That is no ordinary scar." (GoF 30)

"What made you think he'd really stopped supporting Voldemort, Professor?"

Dumbledore held Harry's gaze for a few seconds, and then said, "That, Harry, is a matter between Professor Snape and myself." (GoF30)

At that moment, Harry fully understood for the first time why people said Dumbledore was the only wizard Voldemort had ever feared. The look upon Dumbledore's face as he peered down at the unconscious form of Mad-Eye Moody was more terrible than Harry could have ever imagined. There was no benign smile upon Dumbledore's face, no twinkle in the eyes behind the spectacles. There was cold fury in every line of the ancient face; sense of power radiated from Dumbledore as though he were giving off burning heat. (GoF35)

When Harry told of Wormtail piercing his arm with the dagger, however, Sirius let out a vehement exclamation and Dumbledore stood up so quickly he that Harry started. Dumbledore walked around the desk and told Harry to stretch out his arm. Harry showed them both the place where his robes were torn and the cut beneath them. "He said my blood would make him stronger than if he'd used someone else's." Harry told Dumbledore. "He said the protection my --my mother left in me --he'd have it too. And he was right --he could touch me without hurting himself. He touched my face."

For a fleeting instant, Harry thought he saw a gleam of something like triumph in Dumbledore's eyes. (GoF36)

To Cornelius Fudge: "You are blinded," said Dumbledore, his voice rising now, the aura of power around him palpable, his eyes blazing once more, "by the love of the office you hold, Cornelius! You place too much importance, and you always have done, on the purity of blood! You fail to recognize that it matters not what someone is born, but what they grow up to be!" (GoF36)

"It is my belief -- and never have I so hoped that I am mistaken -- that we are all facing dark and difficult times. <snip> Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave, because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort. Remember Cedric Diggory." DD wanted Harry to go to lessons with Snape. To facilitate this, Harry had to have a modicum of trust for the teacher. Or respect for DD's authority. Since we know Harry didn't trust Severus.. Harry had to then, have some respect yet, for DD's authority. When Harry began to question this authority.. DD brushed him off.. saying "I trust Severus Snape." No doubt DD was 'projecting' feelings of trust or whatever you want to call it. DD really NEEDED Harry to go to these lessons. DD, being an accomplished legilimens.. could have seen right away that Harry was in trouble with Voldy. As such.. shouldn't DD also be an accomplished Occlumens? If DD was an accomplished Occlumens... what was the big worry about Harry looking at him? Sure, Harry got a bit violent feeling when he saw DD.. but that would have helped, initially, to get Harry to try harder to Occlude. They might have been able to HELP him early on like that. But no.... DD made his spy give lessons on occlumency to Harry... knowing full well that Harry could not protect his mind from Voldy. This seems like a breach in security, if you ask me. DD couldn't risk Voldy getting into his mind via Harry.. ok.. but then to risk Sev's position? Unlikely. I think they both knew full good and well, that Voldy would see Sev 'teaching' Harry, and that THAT fact was factored into their plan. If McG.. or Flitwick.. or Bill Weasley.... or anyone else had taught Harry Occlumency, it'd be a good bet that Harry would have paid more attention and tried harder. If DD had explained more fully the ramifications of Voldy getting into Harry's head.. Harry might have tried harder. I do not believe DD's "cop out" story that he was just a blind old man.. too caught up in his love of Harry, to see the truth about how much Harry and Sev didnt' get along. Therefore, I do not think that TRULY teaching Harry to block his mind, was the objective at all. Even if Hagrid WAS on DD's side.. he still could have been part of this whole deal of opening Harry's mind. Think of what Hagrid said.. "Some say he died.. Codswollop, imo" (or words to that effect.. the book isn't by me right now). DD knew that Voldemort wasn't dead. What if DD decided that in order to gain more intelligence on the whereabouts/movements of Voldy.. he wanted to explore the possibility that a link between Harry and Tom existed. DD certainly didn't have any other way of knowing where Voldy was, did he? Sev's mark apparently didn't twinge when Tom was stuck on the back of Quirrell's head... so that wasn't a reliable means of detection... Obviously, any Foe Glasses, Sneak-o-Scopes, or other Dark detectors weren't showing anything when it came to Quirrell. Or not enough for anyone to question.. beyond his exposure to the dark elements in his fights??? I don't think she'll say that DD exploited Harry's link to Voldy.. but I see it as a possibility.. given the 'facts' we have. Back, for a minute to the idea that DD must have known that Sev's position would be seen by Voldemort, via Harry. Knowing that... and having those lessons go fwd anyhow.. speaks of the manipulation of events that has occurred. The pensieve memory also.. was designed to make Harry see Sev in a more sympathetic light. Snape could have done that, to have Harry feel poorly about his father and Sirius... OR..... DD could even have suggested it, knowing Harry would be too curious not too look (DD knew he did it before)... and I could see then, that DD hoped to facilitate more understanding for Sev/Harry. Was Sev's temper tantrum all an act? It was questioned before, as it was not a 'normal' tantrum for him... All designed to draw Harry into the scene.. believe it more fully... No.. I do not trust DD at all. I think he is for the side against Voldy, sure.. and that he has manipulated Harry and the Gang into position... but as the Veritas Vox Vocis? No. *ducks flames*_________________
What ever happened to _______??? *waits for bk8*
Thu Jul 19, 2007 5:45 pm

karlii26:
Overall, given the discussion Hagrid 'overheard' between Snape and DD, then any arguments Snape had were brushed off by DD, and he told Snape he would have to follow the plan through... irregardless of Sev's feelings on the matter. It happened once, in canon.. so it could have happened before. I think DD could have been calling on some VOW he had with Severus. That explains why he trusted him. It explains why Sev had to follow DD's instructions. (yes, we have been down this road). It could be said that Snape was merely taunting Harry at the end. ...I say, that I don't see how Snape could have 'gotten where he is', if he can't control his emotions better than that. But if Severus Snape really WANTS to help Harry.... and he is somehow constrained by DD from doing so, then he might have had to couch his words..... I say, he was trying to still help Harry with the advice. Now, think even back to the Quidditch game where Snape had to officiate. He was white-knuckled when it was over. Harry had just 'dive-bombed' past him to get the Snitch. I didn't get the impression that Sev was very comfortable on the broom to begin with. Harry thought he was just being an evil git.. but it also points to being scared to go up on the broom. DD actually attended that game, which was unusual enough, based on the remarks from Harry's teammates. It makes me think that DD told Snape to go up on the broom, to protect Harry from the air, or look for enemies, or something. This is another example of Severus having to do something he didn't want to, based on DD's vow with him, or hold over him. Actually, I hadn't compared this scene with the 'Lightning-Struck Tower' before, but there are some similarities, now that I think of it. So, maybe in the end, it was Snape trying to help Harry, going around the bond. Maybe DD was dead then, and the bond was negated.. or maybe DD wasn't dead yet.. and Snape still had to be careful how he said things. But I think he was trying to help Harry. Did Snape ever LIE to Harry? *holds fire extinguisher and Augamenti charm at ready* LOL_________________
What ever happened to _______??? *waits for bk8*
Thu Jul 19, 2007 7:01 pm

mrs fawlty:
I don't think Snape ever lied to Harry - only by omission, with regard to whatever he thought or felt about Lily: she is NEVER mentioned by Snape. I'm not even convinced that he lies habitually to anyone, though it does depend on how you read his weasel words to Bellatrix and to Draco, and I don't mind if people want to disagree with this opinion! My guess is that the relationship behind closed doors between Dumbledore and Snape is quite stormy, since I imagine their 'Harry Policy' differs substantially. I was quite happy in this opinion till book 6, when Snape suddenly gives out a mild series of detentions instead of expulsion to Harry for what anyone would call serious misconduct. I'd always thought Snape wanted him at Privet Drive where he was safe. Of course, time marches on, and with Voldy on the loose again, and Snape knowing (does he?) that DD will soon be dead, the safety of Privet Drive isn't what it was, especially as the protection it offers runs out next birthday. Speaking of time and birthdays, must get busy: JKR kindly elected to release DH on my *birthday, and I'm organizing a celebration for tomorrow evening prior to lining up at the bookshop, so there's potato salad to make, and a grill to clean.... see you in line! *It's my birthday and I'll cry if I want to??_________________
'...no practical definition of freedom would be complete without the freedom to take the consequences.' - Terry Pratchett
Thu Jul 19, 2007 7:38 pm

karlii26:
Yes, Snape's attitude toward Harry differed in bk6, didn't it? Or it seemed to. I figure he was bluffing when he clamored for Harry's expulsion. Sort of part of the act, wasn't it? At least, that's how I see it. But when it came down to it in the end, Snape kept Harry close at hand... apparently not even telling McG or DD about the Sectumsempra incident. I can't see what good the blood wards are, beings Tom used Harry's blood in his rebirthing ritual. But there must be SOMEthing to it. We'll see tomorrow night! I think Snape is the ultimate Spin Doctor. He can take the words of truth.. and make them say what he wants people to hear. Then, he can take the same words, and make a different group of people hear something different. All the same words. That'w what Spinners End was about, I think. He didn't say anything until Cissy or Bella did. Then, he didn't really SAY it was so... just that wasn't that what the Dark Lord thought? Now that's not as complete an explanation as I would like, but I think yo uhave to look past it if you are going to ask questions. As to the NYT: the Grey Lady is continuing her descent to Bag Lady. I don't know if either Scholastic or Bloomsbury has any standing to sue, but I hope so. I think I can also guess which newspaper will get neither ads nor review copies from either of them._________________... and then you just have to play algebra ...
Thu Jul 19, 2007 8:45 pm

karlii26:
Greyniffler... I understand what you mean about fearing that the Dark Lord would possess Harry, and that would encourage DD to have no alternative but to attack him. However, the alternate actions taken by Dumbledore seem be nearly as 'horrific' anyway. It seems that to have just looked Harry in the eye, and dealt with it, would have been the short action.

In other words... dealing with Voldemort possessing Harry, mere weeks after his resurrection, seems like a better opportunity for victory, than waiting months for him to build up his strength. In the grand scheme of things, it appears that Dumbledore thought that delaying the inevitable (Tom possessing Harry) was a good/viable tactic.

Harry's mind was wide open to Tom, and Dumbledore knew it. (hence, he wouldn't look at him). Yet he put Severus in front of Harry, ostensibly to train him to block Voldy out. This means that Severus was expendable, in Dumbledore's organization. Or Severus was using that as dis-information.
Which, if it was DIS-information, then Dumbledore was behind it or in on it. Which indicates to me, that Dumbledore didn't really care how much or how fast Harry learned, as it all furthered DD's goals of eliciting information on Voldemort's movements. Perhaps even checking the veractiy of Severus' reports from meetings.

Harry was manipulated emotionally, by Voldemort, in bk5. But he was manipulated emotionally by Dumbledore all along. Left in an abusive home and ignored for ten years. Manipulated into attaining the prejudices of the Light side.. when indeed he was a blank slate.... (not that he shouldn't BE on the Light side.. merely that he was masterfully played.) Alternately shown favoritism and ridicule... Pushed beyond normal magical limits for his age... only to be ignored once again.. yet played like a violin. Shown memories to shake his foundation.. pushed into working with Snape... only to be told "it's just that I loved you too much"... (call out the advocates! That's pretty scarey stuff!).

Oh.. and then.. "I'm just an old man... you can forgive that can't you?"

*hands out handkies* Whatever..

Then.. in bk6, we see Dumbledore actually seem to treat Harry with a little respect. SEEM being the key word. He still ignored him.. he still kept him in the dark.. he still did not bother to SHOW Harry what he would need to know, in order to work with these adult wizards.. No... He used Harry in some sort of sub-plot of his own... keeping it all hush-hush.. and not able to tell Harry who his contacts would be, in case DD died. Now.. I know DD knew he was going to die. Yet he only left Harry with the option of Ron and Hermione. Children who hadn't finished school yet. The only thing they have attained, is the opportunity to apperate. I still say that would indicate that DD has an alternate plan running simultaneously. He'd about have to, eh? ........I think that is what Sev is up to.

Ok.. enough Dumbles-bashing.. I don't know what's gotten into me. But the more I look at this, the more I see his crafty plots. *stands in line quietly now*_________________
What ever happened to _______??? *waits for bk8*
Thu Jul 19, 2007 9:22 pm

greyniffler:
quote:
Originally posted by caseyanndigger: [...] Everyone had to be viewed as expendable -- Dumbledore was fighting a war. Book 3 is about mistaken roles (as opposed to mistaken identities) and I expect that Book 7 will have at least one major surprise in who has played what role._________________
... and then you just have to play algebra ...
Fri Jul 20, 2007 2:57 am

karlii26:
Casetanndigger said: It would not have been a good idea to attack Voldemort while he was possessing Harry. The Horcruxes are still out there, remember?

I concur.. but that is not what I was talking about. I meant, if they had just DEALT with Voldemort possessing Harry earlier, then Voldemort might not have been as strong. Harry might have actually learned occlumency at that time. It just strikes me that Dumbledore's action on the matter was, in reality, more of a 'non-action'.

I'm not saying that Dumbledore sat in his office like a twisted freak. I'm saying he isn't a benevolant kindly old grandfather. He WAS a general in a war. But that doesn't allow me to condone his behavior.

They weren't in active warfare for the entire ten years Harry lived with the Dursleys. As far as him keeping things from Harry. Certainly, there are many, many things that are 'need to know'. But he is staking the fate of the Wizarding World on this kid. The kid should at least have a new mentor to turn to. Even if he doesn't choose to tell Harry all the members of the Order, or who the other spy in the DE is... There are things he could have done differently, to facilitate the maneuvers he needed.

As to what Dumbledore's motivations were. Hmm... I'd like to think he DID have the wizarding world in his best interests... but does the end always justify the means?

I just see a few opportunities for healing emotional wounds.. that, if Dumbledore truly cared for people.. he might have taken advantage of.. much sooner. It strikes me, that perhaps in his old age, he forgot that he was fallible.

Used to pulling the strings, he could have forgotten that the puppets might not appreciate the dance._________________
What ever happened to _______??? *waits for bk8*
Fri Jul 20, 2007 3:03 am

Deathly Hallows

Well now, that was interesting.

The post I put up on the seventeenth is about to be updated with huge spoilers... so don't go there, if you don't want to know.

Oh.... and here is a spoiler for you.... right here.. right now...

Kreacher Rocks!!!

Here we go....

Disclaimer: I am not Rowling. I am not scholastic or anyone else. I haven't read the book. I haven't seen the book. I haven't seen SCAN'S of the book. If I've gotten any of this right, it is due to 'good sleuthing' over @ New Clues Forums... or Dumb Luck.

I've got to say, that I have thought several times about getting on here and posting more of my theories. There is a lot to think about.

Recently, I realized I had not been thinking 'outside the box' when it comes to the Founders. People think she could be part-centaur.... but I think she could be 'Goblinish'. I have also come to the conclusion.. all on my own.. before today.. (see my New Clues Forum posts, for verification of the dates)... that Ravenclaw's relic is a tiara... either the one in the Room of Requirement, or Great-Auntie Muriel's. yes

I find, though, that I'm afraid.. if I guess anything with too much accuracy, that some of these weird "powers that be" would try to sue me or something. Not LOL, either. I look at what Scholastic has been up to.. and it creeps me out.

None-the-less, I am going to post some final thoughts... and I hope I'll think to continue to do this for the next couple of days.

Draco, again... while he likely IS a death eater.. is most certainly a werewolf. not werewolf that we see...

Severus Snape is good. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hagrid, McG, or Flitwick (if not all) is bad. No, on all counts.. *drat*

Bill will be the new DADA teacher...Nope... And while Albus will remain dead.. it might be... that he actually died a while ago, and Abe has been 'impersonating' him all along. nope

Arthur had been under the Imperius curse before... likely due to something Lucius did. we aren't told

Lucius will die. Arthur and/or Molly will die. Severus will die. Hermione or Ron will die. Maybe both. If not.. Fred will die.. maybe Percy too.

Let's see... It'll be a 'bloodbath', eh?

Harry will defeat Voldy.. and Harry will "pass over" for a while. I dunno if he will stay dead.. but I have the feeling he'll see his dead people again.

OH.. and Remus will die... Last of the Mauraders.. etc. Which means Tonks will probably die too. Moody for sure...

Who's left?

Neville will be a hero. Luna? Hmm.. we don't see her b-day do we? She'll probably die. no to Luna

Sprout will die.. maybe by shards of glass when her greenhouse is attacked. nope

Sinistra will fall off the tower. I know, it's been done.. but hey.. it fits! nope

Trelawney is not a fraud.. she's just got that curse so no one will believe her. don't know about the curse.. but she's got a mean serve!!

The centaurs, goblins and house elves will all play huge roles in helping Harry finish his tasks. Not how I thought... but still yes

I hope the epilogue is Harry's birthday party when he's twenty-seven yrs old. I really hope so. About nine years and 32 days off...

It'd be nice if Ron and Hermione make it... Everyone didn't die in LotR.. nor in the Belgariad.

I cannot figure out a good reason for Dumbledore to have had that damned Invisibility Cloak. IF James left it with him... just how long before he died... did he leave it? Did he leave it on purpose? Or did he forget it/misplace it.... and DD 'conveniently' forgot to give it back? Did James lend it to the Order? But why not get it back, then, when your wife and child need hiding?

Who... or what... could have been THAT important? Trelawney... Snape... Ginny.... Luna... who might have been important to hide.. that summer? Neville? But that was AFTER James had died...None of the above... DD was just as big of bastard as I have ever made him out to be....

What artifact? What was going on... at that time? Not the Philosopher's Stone.. And if an artifact HAD been that important.. why didn't DD tell Harry? ahh... now we get to the crux of the matter, don't we? an artifact WAS the reason DD had it... and the reason he DIDN'T tell Harry...

No, I think it has to be a "who". Tonks would only have been eight years old. I can see hiding a child. But was she showing signs of her skill, at that age? Did they need to hide her?

So that remains a mystery to me. Another one... is just who is Snape's son? Rowling said that Snape does not have a daughter. Personally, I like Severitus... and it'd be cool if Snape was Harry's father. I don't see it in reality though. This'll have to be something for bk8!!

I've heard a few murmurings that perhaps Regulus and Snape worked together.. nope.. I suppose this could be true. IF Regulus is R.A.B.

It is pretty 'obvious', maybe too obvious. Oh... and Regulus' middle name is Arcturus. That's my fine guess.

I find the Masons in bk2, to be highly suspicious. I think they were the Malfoys. I think they were shocked to discover Harry Potter really there... and were afraid the ministry owl was for them... because they'd broken some sort of ward or something. Dobby bowed when they came in the door... and it is obvious Malfoy knew where Harry lived.. as Dobby knew. I guess Dobby could have used elf magic to go on his own... but I think Malfoy knew all along where Harry was. Dobby didn't come out and show himself until the very day the Mason's arrived. ............there IS no coincidence. don't see it... waiting for bk8

Hagrid, imo, WAS the first one to start to open Harry's mind to the Dark Lord. I think Voldy's wand was hidden in the pink umbrella. I think Hagrid took it when he picked up Harry. I think Pettigrew got it from Hagrid, when he was down in Hagrid's hut.. in PoA. I still think this...

I think Minerva let the demenotors get to BartyJr on purpose I think this too... but for different reasons?.. not for revenge.. but to safeguard their secrets.

Cissy would kill Bella to protect Draco.. if it comes to that. I think she could.. but Molly beat her to it. Cissy did come through for Draco though.. so I get one point for getting right, but two halves differently...

I think the fox Bella killed in Bk6... was an animagus.. (dunno who.. or if it matters).

If Hagrid is evil.. he has a dark lord weapon (Grawp), right there on the grounds.. keeping the centaurs riled up and pre-occupied. Doesn't look like it... And I already think the centaurs will be 'good'. Finally!!

I think McG started there, as the DADA teacher when Tom didn't get the job. She obviously switched to Transfiguration.. don't know

In Bk1... McG was not a trusted member of the Order. She barely knew Albus. But she knew Hagrid very well. Do we see McG at Grimmauld Place? She certainly wasn't one of 'the old crowd'. Hagrid kisses McG, in Bk1.. and McG only giggles. Hagrid told her he was going to bring Harry to #4 Privet Drive. Or at least, that he was going to end up there. She must have had a BIG reason to stay there ALL DAY.. and miss all the parties. Not to mention.. who was at the school? Flitwick? Slughorn? Sprout? No.. there is something verrrry amiss about that first scene.

Why is Petunia So scared in bk5? There is more than meets the eye with this one. As far as 'that awful boy'? I believe it to be Severus. Got that one right!

Who will do magic? Filch or Figg. I'm still trying to figure this one out... I'm not sure we see this..

Oh.. and Irma Pince= I am Prince. Which means that she is Eileen.. Severus' mother. I also think that Filch= Tobias. Which'd probably mean he is NOT the one to do magic.. but if Filch is not Tobias.. then I keep Argus in the running for using magic. Bk8....

Now, I suppose that'd be a good reason to hide someone under the invisibility cloak. Fake their deaths... using Draught of Living Death.. slip the cloak in the coffin.. and then when the bier flashes.. they apperate out under the cloak. hmmm... She's saving this for another story!

Ollivander has gone to ground hiding... and Fortescue.. I dunno. I remember he helded Harry with his history once.. (bk 3).. so there might be a clue there somewhere. Nope... on Ollivander.. I dunno what happened to Fortescue...

I didn't say it before.. but Pettigrew will die.. as he has a life debt to Harry... it'll come at a crucial moment. ........ yep on that one... Maybe Skeeter will die too... alas... no

The symbol on the book is a reference to Delphi. And the snake in the egg is a 'druid's egg'... symbolizing another kind of ritual. The dragon is Norbert... no, no and no

I know there is a bit more.. so I'll add it later....

again.. I am not Rowling.. I have not read bk7. I have not SEEN bk7. I have not seen SCAN'S of bk7. I am not part of scholastic. I am at home, on vacation.. and I will be in line to buy the book at midnight Friday night/12:01 Saturday... just like everyone else. IF I got anything right here.. it is either because of 'good sleuthing' @ the New Clues Forum... or plain Dumb Luck.

A couple more....

Over at Aby's blog... we have been talking about Percy.. so go check it out! Some good ideas are going around!

Daughter2 was re-reading PoA this weekend, and has raised soooooo many questions about Remus now, that I am going to have to think about adding him to my 'evil' list. But even with all the questions, it still sounds like he is just a self-centered opportunist, rather than out-and-out evil guy. Sort of how Umbridge was evil, but not a Death Eater. Remus isn't great.. but not evil.

I hold with evil Minnie McG... I tell you.... and now I am seeing links to the whole Percy thing..

Percy uses Hermes as his messanger to Penelope. That is one thing. Then, Hermes helps Athena (Minerva) help Percy kill Medusa. Medusa was the rival of Athena. If Athena is like Minerva.. then who might be Minerva's rival? I don't have a lot of support for this right now, but I will probably be looking for it over the next few days, but I think Hermione is the rival of Minerva. My biggest pointer is page 172, of GoF. Minerva grabs Hermione by the neck, ostensibly to save her from falling, but hurting her enough that she rubs her sore neck.

Why would that be in the story, if it wasn't important? Why the neck? That's silly. Why not say she grabbed her arm to keep her from falling. I don't think I've grabbed anyone by the neck to help them.... so I think this is a pointer to something.

Also, Hermione is tied to Penelope, as in CoS, they were petrified at the same time... together.

And Aby asks a good question.. what is the tunnel on the fourth floor that has been blocked since CoS? hmmm??? Was it Percy???

Or Ginny?????

Super Sidera Votum

This is my family coat of arms... Time is a large theme, and Hermione jumps to the conclusion that all time-turners are destroyed because the Daily Prophet (yeah right) said all the Ministry time-turners were destroyed. Dumbledore said that it was Snape's timely action that saved him.

However, while pouring through the text, a few other things came to my eye. Remember, that I have recently decided that Flitwick must be part of the Unholy Trio here. He was at the Three Broomsticks with Fudge and Rosmerta, in PoA, along with Rubeus and Minnie McG. But we see in Bk 7, a perhaps more sinister, and potentially revealing clue:
page 615:

"Harry, what happened? According to Hagrid you were with Professor Dumbledore when he --when it happened. He says Professor Snape was involved in some --" (McG)

"Snape killed Dumbledore," said Harry.

She stared at him for a moment, then swayed alarmingly; Madam Pomfrey, who seemed to have pulled herself together, ran forward, conjuring a chair from thin air, which she pushed under McGonagall.

"Snape," repeated McGonagall faintly, falling into the chair. "We all wondered... but he trusted... always... Snape... I can't believe it..."

Now, this is my speculation on that. McG does not say who all wondered.. the "we" could just as easily indicate DE, as it could teachers, or family, or Ministry. And just who did this trusting? We are led to believe she is talking about Dumbledore, but if 'we' is DE, then 'he' could just as easily be Voldy, and McG, like Bella, didn't trust Snape, and is shocked to discover that LV seems to have been right all along.

"He always hinted that he had an irondclad reason for trusting Snape," muttered Professor McGonagall, now dabbing at the corners of her leaking eyes with a tartan-edged handkerchief. "I mean... with Snape's history... of course people were bound to wonder... but Dumbledore told me explicitly that Snape's repentence was absolutely genuine.... Wouldn't hear a word against him!"
***omitted text***
"This is all my fault," said McGonagall, suddenly. She looked disoriented, twisting her wet handkerchief in her hands. "My fault. I sent Filius to fetch Snape tonight, I actually sent of him to come and help us! If I hadn't alerted Snape to what was going on, he might never have joined forces with the Death Eaters. I don't think he knew they were there before Filius told him. I don't think he knew they were coming."

OK... So here sits McG, manipulating the crowd. Perhaps, like Bella, she didn't trust Snape... and perhaps my first conclusion is wrong. Perhaps McG, knew Snape was on DD's side, and is now seeing the advantage of having the world at large after him. But at the same time, she exonerates him. "I don't think he knew they were coming." She admits that he didn't know until FF told him... on HER orders. I don't know if she wanted Snape to help the DE, or if she was going to use the opportunity to see what side he would fight with.

"So when he arrived at the fight, he joined in on the Death Eater's side?" asked Harry.
***omitted words***
"I don't know exactly how it happened," said Professor McGonagall distractedly. "It's all so confusing... Dumbledore had told us that he would be leaving the school for a few hours and that we were to patrol the corridors just in case... *Remus, Bill and Nymphadora were to join us... and so we patrolled. All seemed quiet. Every secret passageway out of the school was covered. We knew nobody could fly in. There were powerful enchantments on every entrance into the castle. I still don't know how the Death Eaters can possibly have entered...."

*not Snape? Why didn't DD have Sev helping patrol? Did he even let Sev know he was leaving? Would Severus have tried to stop him (think Pomfrey with a patient) or maybe have tried to go along? DD tells Harry to wake him up. Obviously, DD kept him in the dark about this mission.. not even including him with patrolling. At the same time, it further exonerates Sev, because DD helped provide him with an alibi. If Sev had been patrolling, everyone would have said he let the DE into the castle. Now, there isn't that option. Even Harry will have to admit that Draco didn't tell Snape what his plan was.

"Outside Snape's office, yes," whispered Hermione, her eyes sparkling with tears, " with Luna. We hung around for ages outside it and nothing happened...* We didn't know what was going on upstairs, Ron had taken the map....It was nearly midnight when Professor Flitwick came sprinting* down into the dungeons. He was shouting about Death Eaters in the castle*, office and we heardI don't think he really registered that Luna and I were there at all, he just burst his way into Snape's him saying that Snape had to go back with him and help* and then we heard a thump and Snape came hurtling out of his room and he saw us and -- and --"

"What?" Harry urged her.

"I was so stupid, Harry!" said Hermione in a high-pitched whisper. "He said Professor Flitwick had collapsed and that we should go and take care of him while he -- while he went to help fight the Death Eaters --" She covered her face in shame and continued to talk into her fingers, so that her voice was muffled*. "We went into his office to see if we could help Professor Flitwick and found him unconscious on the floor... and oh, is so obvious* now, Snape must have Stupified Flitwick, but we didn't realize, Harry, we didn't realize, we just let Snape go!"

*First, this further exonerates Severus. The two girls were outside his office for a long time, and he was inside. Unless there is another way out (floo?) he didn't go anywhere.

*Flitwick sprinting? Have you ever seen "Little People, Big World", on The Learning Channel? It would be quite a feat for a 'little person' to literally sprint all that way. Why wouldn't Flitwick have used some sort of charm for communication? (not part of the Order?)

*about Death Eaters in the castle. He could have as easily been excited and happy about this, as terrified. It doesn't say that he said they were attacking, or invading.. merely that they had arrived.

*Flitwick wanted Sev to come with him and help. Again, it doesn't say.. "come help me repel the invaders".. nor does it say.. "come with me and help defeat the Order." But most importantly, it does not say. The gang have been very wrong more than once about the people they suspected and trusted. This has all the ear-marks of that same trend.

*Her voice was muffled. Her face was covered. There is something to this... What was she trying to hide? I am not saying Hermione is evil.. but I AM saying there must be a reason she is hiding her face, besides being upset. Her voice was muffled. Sort of like how Slughorn's memory? Was someone in the room trying to legilimize her? Or in some way control what she said? Too much? Was McG trying to block her from incriminating Flitwick?

*Here is a conclusion that is jumped to. It is pure speculation on Hermione's part that Severus cast any spell at all on Filius. In fact, we later see that Filius had a bruise on his forehead from his encounter here. Look at it this way: Filius is a master dueler (or at least a champion). Sev knows this, and even though Flitwick had just sprinted there, Sev would know that any curse or hex thrown at Flitwick would have repercussions. I think Sev probably just hit him and knocked him down.

So that is all I have to say about Flitwick for right now. I do have a couple more tidbits to guess about Minnie McG though. I also found more about Hagrid, from this book, but that will be later. On page 235:

"--Professor, can I see Professor Dumbledore, please?"

"The Headmaster is away* until Monday, Potter," said Professor McGonagall, looking surprised.

"Away?" Harry repeated angrily.

"Yes, Potter, away!" said Professor McGonagall tartly. "But anything you have to say about this horrible business can be said to me*, I'm sure!"

For a split second, Harry hesitated. Professor McGonagall did not invite confidences;* Dumbledore though in many ways more intimidating, still seemed less likely to scorn a theory, however wild. This was a life-and-death matter though, and no moment to to worry about being laughed at.

"I think Draco Malfoy gave Katie that necklace, Professor."
****omitted text****
"That is a very serious accusation, Potter," said Professor McGonagall, after a shocked pause. "Do you have any proof*?"
***Harry tells her about Borgin and Burkes***
When he had finished speaking, Professor McGonagall looked slightly confused.

"Malfoy took something to Borgin and Burkes for repair?"

"No, Professor, he just wanted Borgin to tell him how to mend something, he didn't have it with him. But that's not the point*, the thing is that he bought something at the same time, and I think it was that necklace --"

"You saw Malfoy leaving the shop with a similar package?"*

"No, Professor, he told Borgin to keep it in the shop for him--"
***argument ensues with Hermione and Ron and him***
"That's enough!" said Professor McGonagall, as Hermione opened her mouth to retort, looking furious. "Potter, I appreciate you telling me this, but we cannot point the finger of blame at Mr. Malfoy purely because he visited the shop where this necklace might have been purchased. The same is probably true of hundreds of people--"

"--that's what I said--", muttered Ron.

"--and in any case, we have put stingent security measures in place this year. I do not believe that necklace can possibly have entered this school without our knowledge* --"

"But--"

"--and what is more," said Professor McGonagall, with an air of awful finality, "Mr. Malfoy was not in Hogsmeade today."

Harry gaped at her, deflating.

"How do you know, Professor?"

"Because he was doing detention with me. He has now failed to complete his Transfiguration homework twice* in a row. So, thank you for telling me your suspicions, Potter," she said as she marched past them, "But I need to go up to the hospital wing now to check on Katie Bell. Good day to you all."

She held open her office door. They had no choice but to file past her without another word.

*Again?? Page 267, bk1: "We want to see Professor Dumbledore," said Hermione, rather bravely, Harry and Ron thought.

"See Professor Dumbledore?" Professor McGonagall repeated, as though this was a very fishy thing to want to do. "Why?"

Harry swallowed -- now what?

"It's sort of a secret," he said, but he wished at once he hadn't, because Professor McGonagall's nostrils flared.

"Professor Dumbledore left ten minutes ago," she said coldly. "He received an urgent owl from the Minstry of Magic, and flew off for London at once."
**Harry gets flustered, and tells her that Snape is going to steal the stone... she tells them to go outside and 'play nice' so-to-speak**

*page 626, bk6:
After glancing once at this portrait, Professor McGonagall made an odd movement as though steeling herself, then rounded the desk to look at Harry, her face taut and lined.

"Harry," she said, "I would like to know what you and Professor Dumbledore were doing this evening when you left the school."

"I can't tell you that, Professor," said Harry. He had expected the question, and had his answer ready. It had been here, in this very room that Dumbledore had told him that he was to confide the contents of their lessons to nobody but Ron and Hermione.

"Harry, it might be important," said Professor McGonagall.

"It is," said Harry, very, but he didn't want me to tell anyone."

Professor McGonagall glared at him. "Potter" -- Harry registered the renewed use of his surname-- "in the light of Professor Dumbledore's death, I think you must see that the stuation has changed somewhat-"

"I don't think so," said Harry, shrugging. "Professor Dumbledore never told me to stop following his orders if he died."

"But--"
**Here Harry goes on to tell her Rosmerta was under the Imperius... to which McG was incredulous**

*She blew off the gang before when they had tales to tell, so why should they trust her now?

*Here she seems to want to know what exactly Harry 'has' on Malfoy.

*She notices the bigger thing that Malfoy is up to, and leads off that way, to see what Harry knows about the repair work. Harry thinks she is going off topic...

*Again, McG questions Harry closely, to see what, if any evidence he has to tie Malfoy to that necklace... she goes after him like Perry Mason!!

*Not that the necklace DID enter the school... it hadn't yet, because Borgin sent it to Rosmerta... but that's not to say that it couldn't have or wouldn't have... WITH someone's knowledge....

*It isn't any of their business why Draco had detention.. so why give them an excuse? If it were a legitimate reason, I don't think she'd have given it.

These are just some of the reasons I have for distrusting Minnie McG, and Filius. I have a few quotes to put in about Hagrid.. but I want to combine them with things I have said before... about Hagrid in Bk1. That'll be a topic for another day... and I'll probably even get it posted before Bk7.... so I can see if these theories actually hold any water!! LOL

Triune of Evil

I have decided that in addition to Minnie McG, and Rubeus, ....Filius Flitwick is also evil. In PoA, the three of them meet with Fudge and Madame Rosmerta, in the Three Broomsticks. It is said that Rosmerta was under Imperius in HBP, and maybe she was, but it might have been as an alibi. She could have been working with Draco. On the other hand, she really did believe in Sirius Black, so she might be innocent. Maybe.

But this is about Flitwick. If you take all the things he's done, it adds up like McG and Rubeus...
It's all little things, there is never very much about Filius in the books. He brought a three-legged stool, rather then the four-legged stool, which could indicate that he is helping keep the four houses seperate. Sirius was housed in his office, in Bk3...

There is more, but I am not going to go through it all right now. I've decided that those three are the Triune of Evil, and I wanted to get it down,... so if it turns out I was right (LOL) then I can say... "see! I knew it!" :-)

Double Doors

Does anyone else notice that the Dumbledore with the Blackened Hand seemed somewhat 'ooc' from the Headmaster in the previous books?

Ok, granted, it could have been because he knew he was dying, or something, but what if it was something else?

Speculation is rampant right now, on the use of TimeTurners.. or whether or not there is one or two Dumbledores. Is there really an Aberforth AND an Albus? Much discussion on some quirks.

In CoS, she says that Harry saw "a fifty-year-younger Dumbledore", in Tom's memory in the diary. It tells that he had auburn hair and beard.

In HBP, she says that "This younger Albus Dumbledore had auburn hair." This was during the pensieve of the memory of meeting Tom.

In the first case, we are led to believe it is Albus, the current Headmaster, who is being talked about. He was Transfiguration Professor, so we believe that that is who Harry sees.

Likewise, in HBP, she calls him 'Dumbledore' throughout the whole chapter. No honorifics.... and then describes him as Albus the younger.

Is it possible for Albus to take on different images? Like a metamorphmagus? This persona is Albus, and that one is Aberforth.... or something different.

It may all come to nothing, but there is something odd with the whole thing... so I thought I'd jot it down.

Goes back then too... to Tom and Rubeus being on first name basis. The pensieve shows reality.
Not what we remember. So Riddle and Hagrid were indeed friends or something.

More later!
EDIT, on April 26.... I want to add that on a re-read, I noticed that when DD went to shake hands with Tom, the first time, in the orphanage.... Tom hesitated. I think he could see the 'memory' DD all along, and was freaked out about the burnt hand. I think Tom was 'looking between both of Dumbledore's eyes all right... again though.. not the younger DD's two eyes.. but the eyes of each Dumbledore... I know,... the apostrophe should be in a different spot, but I still think so. There are many clues to see, if you imagine that the 11 year old TR could see everyone present. He might have really wondered about seeing Harry... who looks like him somewhat.

Lots of Questions

I know I have said I would try to consolidate my thoughts on Hagrid or Minnie McG being evil, and I have not done so on this blog. Suffice it to say, that while my daughter makes fun of me, I have plenty of reasons to think they are.

I think I will start by asking the questions we don't have answers to.

*How did Hagrid find Godric's Hollow?ch 10, PoA

*Hermione's boggart was Minnie McG. Hermione stuttered and said that McG said she'd failed everything. However, in GoF, page 172, McG grabs Hermione around the neck, ostensibly to keep her from falling. It was a tight enough grip that Hermione had to rub her neck. What was that warning for?

*How is it the Minister of Magic, was having a drink with Hagrid, McG and Flitwick? Where was his entourage? PoA .... is this a reason he apologized to Hagrid for taking him away in CoS?

*What did Moody!Crouch mean when he told Ron that his dad'd know all about the Imperius Curse?

**Just how did Peter end up living with the Weasley's?

I have also decided to add Arthur to my list.

He was at the scene of the crime when Moody was kidnapped. Who's to say that he didn't help Crouch Jr? GoF

Pettigrew lived with them, and they even took him on vacation with them to Egypt. (don't forget, Pettigrew was near the open window, by Ron's wand, that time Harry went into the room. Why else would she tell us that, unless she was trying to tell us something?)

There are several good websites that list a lot of reason's for Arthur being under the Imperio.

For that matter... whose side is Percy on?

What if Trelawney isnt' a fraud? I might do a post soon about this one. I do think she is for real now. I think everything she has said has been true. REALLY! Stop thinking about Harry's opinion of her, and see for yourself.
Even the part where she came to Christmas dinner, in PoA, and she predicted the first to rise would be the first to die.

Rowling told us that Dumbledore stood up after she entered, but before she sat down. If you realized that she joined them when she entered the room, then yes, Albus did rise first, and he did die first.

Hmm.. what else? ok.. what does Petunia know? Obviously, waayyyy more than Harry knows she knows.

Why did Voldemort keep telling Lily to stand aside? Why did he call her silly? Why not stupid or Mudblood? There is more than meets the eye there.

Why does Harry have Lily's eyes??? Where is that going?

And I now also purport that James Potter didn't trust Dumbledore. He told him Sirius would be the secret-keeper. Granted, they switched at the last minute, but there must have been a reason. Sure, he told Dumbledore that Sirius was going into hiding also, but even after a few days, why didn't Dumbledore know of the change? Did Dumbledore never get to know the secret of where Godric's Hollow was? Is THIS why he sent Hagrid? It still does not exonerate SOMEONE from knowing Sirius was innocent.

And just exactly why DID Dumbledore have that invisibility cloak? That would have been one of the most important things for James to keep at home, imo. They KNEW there was a spy. Why not keep every advantage with you to protect your family? I find lots of reasons for Albus to have it, and none of them are very good.

Wonder if they used it to get Petunia away from somewhere? I could see Lily wanting to protect her sister, but that isn't the whole answer. What was the whole scoop?

Will Neville break what seems to be a memory charm on him? Just how powerful IS he with his new wand?

And saddly. What if Remus really WAS a spy all along? *ick*

I like Minnie McG, Hagrid, or Arthur better.... for being the hidden bad guy.

Book 7

Here it was, I thought I was done blogging until after Christmas... but now JK has released the title for book 7... 'the deathly hallows'. Now, I have heard of 'deathly pale'.. but to my poor American venacular, it ought to be "deadly hallows". I don't know if British english uses deathly synonymously with deadly or not.

So ... back to that DADA prof blog I did some time ago. I correlated how each of the professors related to that poem in bk2. Also, look at how the professors relate to the title of the books.

SS sees Quirrell trying to steal the SS. (meets his fate)
CoS sees Lockhart going to the CoS.. (meets his fate)
PoA sees Lupin being friends with the PoA (meets his wolfish fate)
GoF sees MoodyCrouch using the GoF (meets his fate)
OoTP sees Umbridge defying the OoTP (meets her fate)
HBP sees Snape AS the HPB (meets his fate in a way)..
now DH sees ???? in relation to whatever the deathly hallows are.. and meeting his/her fate..

Before, in my other post, I postulated that the seventh DADA teacher would be the one to help Harry most. Bring him back from the brink... If the deathly hallows is refering to the horcruxes, it still fits that Bill Weasley could play a large role in bk7... seeings as he's a curse breaker....

So yeah.. I think that JK posted clues in bk5 to the release date. I have wondered for years what was the point of those two odd prophecies... "on the solstice will come a new" "and none will come after". So on the Winter Solstice, she announces her title, which fits the prophecies. (which were meaningless, until she gave them meaning and context).. SO... while I have figured bk7 would come out on 7/7/07... I now wonder if it won't come out on the SUMMER solstice....

Now we just need to see what the Year of the Yeti will bring. :-)

edit: I want to expand a bit on the idea of the DADA teachers.

What if we changed the title from "HP and the Blah Blah" to "The DADA Teacher and the Blah Blah"

For example, things take on a new perspective if we say:

Quirrenes Quirrell and the Sorcerer's Stone

Gilderoy Lockhart and the Chamber of Secrets

Remus Lupin and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Mad-eye Moody and the Goblet of Fire (or Barty Crouch Jr and the Goblet of Fire)

Delorus Umbridge and the Order of the Phoenix

Severus Snape and the Half Blood Prince

So yeah, it strikes me that there is more to it than meets the eye.

Who will it be? How will that person be connected to the Deathly Hallows?

I predict (still): Bill Weasley

Here's your white Christmas

This is as white as it might be this year.

This is a picture of that sticky snow I was talking about in the previous post. There certainly isn't any snow here now!! If you look closely under that lilac bush to the left of the picture, you can see the snow fort the kids were working on. The snow totally made all the branches sag to the extreme degree! You can also see the behind of the back neighbor's dog, "Zed", through the garage window..

I have been busy knitting scarves and hats for the season. My favorite so far is called an "Irish Hiking Scarf". Much fun.

Working for the retail leviathon is also quite arduous. The lack of snow means that we have a plethora of left-over winter gear in the backroom. As it is, we DO live "Up-North" and as such, it IS still likely to snow before it's over... after all, tomorrow is only the first day of winter, but in retail-land, that means we need to have the Spring set done and out by next week! (currently making plans for the swimwear that will start shipping next week).

And on that cheery, bird-chirpy, bright pastel note...
Hope everyone has a great holiday!!

Sticky, no sticky

Well... we received snow last night and boy is it heavy snow! All the branches are bowing down with the weight of it. I am very glad we aren't in a power outage! It has been worse before.

It's a very pretty snow too. There is about three inches on top of the garden shed in the back yard. And a couple inches clinging to all the branches on the trees and lilac bushes, making them all very thick and fluffy. Everything is supremely white.

It won't last all that long, as it is a very wet snow. I have always found that the adage in one of the "Little House" books was pretty true. My grandfather always told it to me like this: (of snow) "Sticky, no sticky; no sticky, sticky." In other words, if the snow is heavy and wet, it won't stick around, but if it is a dry powdery snow, it will likely stick around for a while.

This little snow will be good for business where I work. We had snow here in October, which was actually quite unseasonal. It caused a rush on winter apparel, and we ran right out, as I had only started ordering up on the cold catagories, and as a result it took the better part of five days to get back instock. I had been planning for the first real snow to come about this time of year.

Next year, I will have to try harder to find a wooly bear caterpillar to see what the weather will be like!

No new theories about Harry Potter today. I am still going to post something that shows Minnie McG's treachery.... My kids, on the other hand, get upset with me when I talk too much about Hagrid. Do I "think" she will make Hagrid evil? I dunno... She did say she would invite him to dinner with the {fundamentalists} who say her books are evil. I guess the connotation is that he is big and they would be too scared to talk about him. OR, he is soooo sweet that they would see the error of their ways. OR... (this is my thought, due to her tone of voice and the laugh she gave when she said this)... Hagrid is really the Enforcer, and he would make sure they shut up. :-)

So no.. Until someone adequately can explain in canon how Hagrid found Godric's Hollow, and why it took so long to go get that baby... or where they were in the meantime... I will see duplicity with Dumbledore and Hagrid.

How did Minerva know where to go to wait for Dumbledore? He wasn't too surprised to see her, but you can tell it wasn't planned. She didn't know when they would get there, as she was there from quite early in the morning, before Vernon even left for work. How did she know where Lily's sister lived? Why would you leave the savior of your world on a doorstep? Left to the fates? At the very least, I would have expected Minerva to sit the rest of the night watching over him, until they found him in the morning. What an irresponsible way to treat a fifteen month old baby!! *shakes head*

Ok.. this was about Snow though... ... so on that note.. I will leave you to ponder all things white.

Sturm und Drang

I ran across this phrase today reading the U.S. News & World Report. The first thing that jumped out at me was how similar it looks and sounds to Durmstrang, the infamous wizard school, supposedly steeped in the dark arts. http://www.answers.com/topic/sturm-und-drang

Here is what Wikipedia has to say about it... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sturm_und_Drang

Interesting, in any case.

In my 'research', I am getting more and more vibes that Minnie McG is indeed, um.. not on our side. She was hired in December, 39 years before book 5. We know it was snowing when Tom applied. The Lexicon has her pegged as being a year ahead of Tom at school. She certainly could have been a follower of his. If he was all that crafty, he could have 'planted' her at the school, much the same way I think he 'planted' Hagrid there.

See, Tom knew he couldn't stay at Hogwarts. He asked Dippet and was told no. Then he runs across Dumbledore in the hall. Right after that, Tom hides in the potions classroom and waits for Hagrid to go visit Aragog. I can see the wheels turning... Dippet says no. Dumbledore is there. Dumbledore might have been known to have a soft spot for Hagrid even then. It is certainly alluded to. Tom figures that if he can't stay, why not plant one of his own henchmen?

Same thing a few years later... probably 11 or 12 years after he graduates. He comes to Dumbledore for a job. He doesn't get it, so he plants someone that he figures Dumbledore will accept.

Think about it. Minerva wasn't all that close to Dumbledore in the beginning of Bk1. She worked there for a long time before she became one of the 'inner circle'.

Sturm und drang.

Another Theory

This theory is hot off the presses, so to speak. In other words, I just thought of it while I was sitting here.

Why did Dumbledore have the cloak, when he could become invisible without it?

He wrote to Harry, "Your father left this with me before he died. Use it well."

During JK's chat with Melissa and Emerson, Melissa asked the question: "Was anyone else present in Godric's Hollow the night Harry's parents were killed?"

JK: "No comment."

Now, she says on her site that Snape was not at Godric's Hollow that night.

THE THEORY

I propose that James/Lily had Peter write their 'address' on some paper, and got this paper to Dumbledore, in some fashion. Maybe Sirius delivered it, which could canonically exonerate Dumbledore from the culpability of blaming Sirius for betraying them.

For some reason, Dumbledore was at Godric's Hollow. I suppose arguing with them, although I do not see what it was about. Possibly to try to get them to move again, or something. I also think that perhaps they thought they knew better than he on how to deal with the whole Voldemort/prophecy threat. Perhaps he hadn't told them the whole prophecy either. (?)I realize that the "why" of this is full of holes. *shrug*

The important thing is... he was there.. and for "insert reason".... Lily petrified him. While he was sitting/standing there.. Voldemort started to break in, and James tossed the invisibility cloak over him. He was forced to watch/hear the battle, and the death of James. Then the death of Lily. Which freed him from being petrified. Voldy cursed Harry and vanished before Dumbledore got there..

OK... next part is just crazy, if you love Dumbledore. But if you think him manipulative.. well.. ....

In a fit of pique, he blew their house apart, not unlike Harry did to his office. Then, Harry being knocked unconscious by that curse, and Dumbledore, lost in his grief, expected him dead.... I dunno.. he just left to go get drunk.. ran into Hagrid in a bar... (not really).. taught Hagrid to read, which took better part of a day.. and then drunkenly told Hagrid he might as well go get Harry.. (insert reason). Hagrid got there.. Sirius showed up.. Hagrid took Harry and the bike, after knocking Sirius out.. or egging him on to go find Pettigrew..

Say.. that brings up another point. If Hagrid knew anything.. and we know Pettigrew somehow told him where Godric's Hollow was (Hagrid having nicked the paper from drunk Dumbledore).. if Hagrid thought Sirius was the secret-keeper, why didn't he do anything to him? *shakes head*

I guess, if Hagrid is evil, he could have egged Sirius on to go get Pettigrew, and then left him to rot, cuz he (Hagrid) is a rotter.

Ok.. but the point I want to make.. is that I think the person under the cloak at Godric's Hollow was Dumbledore, and when Lily died, and the petrification lifted, he fell, cutting his knee into the shape of the London Underground.

Autumn

Ah... nothing much about Rowling this time. Many people have gone on record as stating that they love! The Shoes, but that's about it.

These are very Slytherin Shoes. They strike me as something Cissy might have worn to an Event. Very cool. Very chic. Tres Slytherin.

Rowling aligned herself with Stephen King and John Irving. Irving, while a humorous writer, has a decidedly dark humor about him. King? King is a dark writer. Those two writers stated that they had to more-or-less sort through their works to find something that would be ok to read to a young audience, since neither one writes for children. Both chose vomit.. which I thought was rather funny, in a darkish kind of way. Rowling chose the moment Riddle found out he was a wizard. Probably a moment when he started to see the limitless possibilities, now that he understood he could name his powers. A very dark moment in wizarding history. If Dumbledore hadn't told him, or sought him out.. what could have happened instead? It's all about choices.

I digress. This is about Rowling's Slytherin side.

Rowling, portraying herself as a cunning Slytherin, maybe trying to soften the blows that come with Bk7. She can turn around a few years from now and point out that she DID align herself as a dark writer. She openly showed her Slytherin side. She did a reading of the darkest moment in wizarding history, etc. Looking at Rowling and her clues through a Slytherin lens can help sharpen ideas and theories as to the direction she may be taking Bk7.

What twists and turns can we see with the Slytherin lens? It is established that what we see at first is not what we get. We are led to believe what Harry thinks is true. In many cases, this has been proven to be incorrect. It is fascinating at the end of each book to see that we have been led down a path again... but ended up in a place we didn't expect! How will she direct our path in Bk.7?

In the end.. we must take a walk in Jo's Slytherin Shoes.

Has this been done before?

Probably, but I haven't seen it.. so here goes! I had the DADA teachers on my mind. I am also trying to find anything Snape said to Harry about Harry's father. (didn't find anything in bk 1)..

BUT.. I ran across the riddle that Snape wrote. Out of context, it fit with what we could know of the DADA teachers thus far. I have not analyzed the whole thing, to try to make the end pieces fit together, but I will.

Now,Prefect Marcus (a.k.a. Mark B. Hammer) at the Lexicon has gone to the trouble to figure out the solutions, which fit with my theory, mostly.. and while it doesn't portray Snape as favorably as I hoped, it is ok..
http://www.hp-lexicon.org/essays/essay-potionriddle.html

Here goes:
*Danger lies before you, while safety lies behind.
*Two of us will help you, whichever you would find. (Two DADA teachers will see him through)
*One amongst us seven will let you move ahead,
*Another will transport the drinker back instead. (One of the two will help to learn what is needed to move fwd and defeat V, the other, though supportive and a friend, would help H stay safe and go back)
*Two among our number, hold only nettle wine. (Lockhart and Snape)
*Three of us are killers, waiting hidden in line. (Quirrell, Moody and Umridge)
*Choose, unless you wish to stay here forever more. (Can't stay neutral.. what'll it be?)
*To help you in your choice, we give you these clues four:
*First however slyly the poison tries to hide
*You will always find some on nettle wine's left side;
*Second, different are those who stand at either end
*But if you would move onward neither is your friend;
*Third as you see clearly, all are different size,
*Neither dwarf nor giant holds death in their insides;
*Fourth, the second left and the second right
*Are twins once you taste them, though different at first sight.

Lexicon's answers:
P W f/p f/p P W B
My application:
Q L L M U S ?

Neither Lockhart nor Severus tried to hurt Harry, which fits with second left and second right.
Lockhart and Snape are alike, although not at first sight. Well, they look like total opposites, but in the end, Snape is just as arrogant and full of self as Lockhart. They just apply it differently.

And I like the ambiguity of #3 &4 helping or hurting Harry. MoodyCrouch helped Harry a LOT! His goal was Harry's ultimate demise, but he did help him. Lupin did not have Harry's ultimate demise as his goal, but when Lupin was transformed, he did try to hurt Harry.. so that is pretty accurate!

The seventh DADA teacher will be supportive to Harry. I was thinking he/she would hold him back, but hubby has wisely said to not lock myself into that mindset. Perhaps he/she will help Harry get back to normal, or bring him back... from whatever he needs brought back from.

Will there be a new character for the DADA teacher? Until Snape, they were all new to us. Hmm.. maybe Bill Weasely? I like that one. Maybe that will be my prediction for bk7.....

I still contend that Snape will protect Harry in some fashion from the DADA teacher.

Another List

Bk1: Quirrell, during Quidditch Match
Bk2: Lockhart, during the Dueling Club
Bk3: Lupin, during last full moon
Bk4: MoodyCrouch, after the Tourney
Bk5: Umbridge, veritaserum... and the end when they left..
Bk6: Snape, after the Tower, as Sev is leaving..
Bk7: .................

Time will only tell.... who will be the DADA teacher? (Because none of these theories are truly any sort of priority anyhow... but I digress).

1. Hagrid is eeeevil!
2. Lily/Sev in any fashion.
3. Minoiva is eeeevil! yes I said Minoiva.. ;-)
4. Arthur Weasley under the imperius...
5. Draco is a werewolf..
6. Madame Pince is Sev's mother in hiding..
7. Filch is either Tobias, or Pince's boyfriend.
8. Remus is a spy.. and maybe not a werewolf at all..
9. Sev is "that awful boy" Petunia talks about in bk 5.

Rowling is so good at disguising Misdirection that if you view any of these theories under the microscope of.. 'think of it backwards of how you think you know' (#'s 1,3,5,7,8) or.. 'could the evidence point to that in one degree of seperation?' (#'s 2, 6,9).. even in the case of #4.

Now, back when MoodyCrouch was teaching the kiddies that Unforgivables.. he talks to Neville about Cruciatus.. cuz his parents bought it. He talks to Harry about Avada Kadavra.. cuz HIS parents bought it... and he talks to Ron about Imperius. MoodyCrouch says.. "your father WOULD know that one... ". Food for thought, that one is. What could have happened to Arthur? Hard to say. That would take it two degrees away from the book though.

What happens when the Secret-Keeper dies?

This is all directly quoted from JKRowling's site:

"I was surprised that this question won, because it is not the question I'd have voted for... but hey, if this is what you want to know, this is what you want to know!

When a Secret-Keeper dies, their secret dies with them, or, to put it another way, the status of their secret will remain as it was at the moment of their death. Everybody in whom they confided will continue to know the hidden information, but nobody else.

Just in case you have forgotten exactly how the Fidelius Charm works it is

'an immensely complex spell involving the magical concealment of a secret inside a single living soul. The information is hidden inside the chosen person or secret-keeper and is henceforth impossible to find -- unless of course, the Secret-Keeper chooses to divulge it.' (HP & the POA)

In other words, a secret (e.g. the location of a family in hiding, like the Potters) is enchanted so that it is protected by a single keeper (in our example, Peter Pettigrew, a.k.a. Wormtail). Thenceforth, nobody else -- not even the subject themselves-- can divulge the secret. Even if one of the Potters had been captured, force fed Veritaserum or placed under the Imperious curse, they would not have been able to give away the whereabouts of the other two. The only people whoever knew their precise location were those whom Wormtail had told directly, but none of them would have been able to pass on the information."

I still say.. the theoretical piece of paper notwithstanding, that Hagrid had to have known where to go. Or Sirius did go get Harry and give him to Hagrid. The Aurors should not have been able to go to the site. AND.. if (without the paper Racie came up with) anyone DID know how to get there.. they should have TOLD that Sirius was not the Secret-Keeper.

two die...

ok... so two people die. Does she mean that "they" don't target extras, but she does? OR is she saying 'they' do target main characters AND she does also? hmm... (find and read comments on JKR's interview with 'Richard and Judy'.

What I have been wondering today though, which goes back along with the whole Hagrid thing.. (we'll have to discuss Minerva later)... just HOW did Hagrid know where to go to get Harry? Sure he SAYS Dumbledore told him. (which dumbledore?)... (hmmm) BUT.. what I want to understand is that Fidelius Charm.

In Bk 5, the Fidelius is on a PLACE, as in Grimmauld Place. If it can be on a THING.... I would have to wonder why D'dore didn't make himself secret keeper for that silly rock in Bk 1. ??? Ok, it could be legilimentized (is that a word?) but if that is the case, how in the heck does Grimmauld Place stay secret?

Now, I have to presume that the Fidelius in Bk1 was on James and Lily as PEOPLE.. not the place of their home in Godric's Hollow. Peter was the secret-keeper. Peter didn't die. They THOUGHT Sirius was the secret-keeper, yet they didn't have to talk to him to find out where the house was. #1, they COULDN'T have asked him, as he COULDN'T have told. #2, they would have found out that he wasn't the secret-keeper.

Scarier yet, is the idea that Peter somehow had told some of the OotP. I guess he could have written a letter to them or something, but if he told them, then they (at LEAST Hagrid and Albus) should have known that Sirius was innocent. If they knew, and left him in jail all that time... that is just criminal. Don't talk to me about the greater good.

I guess, that Hagrid could have known that Peter was guilty. I still support the idea that he is evil. He found Sirius and borrowed his motorcycle, before Sirius went after Peter. Wouldn't Sirius have told him that Peter betrayed the Potters??? There is something missing in this whole scene.

Maybe this is one of the things JK says she put in the early books that now she has to tie up in book 7. But she needs to talk fast, imo.

I think that she will say the Fidelius was on James and Lily as PEOPLE. The people died, so the charm broke.

However, now I wonder. The point was to protect the baby, shouldn't it have been??? The baby was the point of the prophecy. Or were they hiding because Voldy was after them.. but why wouldn't the charm have been cast to include Harry as well???

And if THAT'S the case, then the charm SHOULDN'T have broken. Peter had to have told. Which makes SOMEONE an accomplice.

...... Sev?? I am sure he had no problem keeping Sirius in jail. BUT. Even if Sev knew from being a DE and he knew that Peter told, Sev COULDN'T have told Albus where the place was. Just as... Albus shouldn't have been able to tell Hagrid where it was either.

I read an editorial today at Mugglenet.. that first suggested Albus performed the Charm. Then the author goes on to repudiate that idea.
IF Albus knew Peter was the secret-keeper, that makes him 100 percent culpable for Sirius' incarceration. If Albus didn't perform the Charm.. how did he know where to find Harry? What dark Blood magic did he have to perform to find him and hence, keep him safe at his Aunt's???

More later..

Any thoughts?? Tell me your opinion on the Fidelius and just how is it that Dumbledore (Al or Abe) could tell him where to go.

Lily... the great potions mistress??

I thought Lily was known for charms... or is it that her wand was good for charms? Are we misled again?

I noticed that every time Harry gained attention from something he constructed using the Prince's book, Slughorn applauded him and compared him directly to Lily.

Now, if Sev is the big bad potion dude.. why isn't Horace noticing that Harry is doing stuff just like him? After all, it is his book, isn't it? But no, Horace compares Harry to Lily.

The kids thought the writing in the book looked a little feminine.. but that was quashed in favor of the owner being male, due to the title.. "Half-Blood Prince".

OK.. I think Lily had the book. I suppose they tutored each other.. her and Sev.

Did he teach her? I think it likely. I think he wrote in her book or something so she could get better grades. (in exchange for what?) *dreams*

Why else would Horace think Harry was doing things exactly like Lily did? I would think that Sev had his own flair and style.. but that Lily just had to follow the directions to get the results.

And due to their (Sev and Lily's) illicit and secret romance, she called him the half-blood prince as her term of endearment.

If Sev was calling himself that.. I somehow doubt he would have touted the half-blood business. I guess he could have been trying to prove a point about hating muggles.. but again, why draw attention to the half part? Admit it.. most of us thought he was pureblood before this book. :-)

How and why was Lily involved with Sev in school? Why does Horace think Harry has HER genius, when he is merely copying SEV's book?

Then again..... since when were Tom and Rubeus on first name terms? That bugs me still.

Hagrid.. or Rubeus the DE..

In Book One.. page55-56, paperback, US version. Hagrid is telling Harry about how he got his scar.

".............Never wondered how you got that mark on your forehead? That was no ordinary cut. That's what yeh get when a powerful, evil curse touches yeh --- took care of yer mum an' dad an' your house, even --- but it didn't work on you, an' that's why yer famous, Harry. No one ever lived after he decided to kill 'em, no ne except you, an' he'd killed some o' the best witches an' wizards of the age --- the McKinnons, the Bones, the Prewetts --- an' you was only an ababy, an' you lived."

Something very pinful was going on in Harry's mind. As Hagrid's story came to a close, he saw again the blinding flash of green light, more clearly than he had ever remmebred it before --- and he remembered something else, for the first time in his life: a high, cruel laugh.

Hagrid was watching him sadly.
_______________________
ok.. we have been directed by the author to view Hagrid in a sympathetic light. But we all thought Sev was the villain too, until at the very end when it was Quirrell.

Maybe the powerful wand in the umbrella was Tom's!!! He could have found it during "the lost day" when he went to get Harry from the house. It makes perfect sense. If he was there to get Harry, and no one else had found the wand... etc. Eventually, yes, Peter gets it, but that could just be a matter of stealing it back.

I find it highly important that it says something PAINFUL was going on in Harry's mind. We are led to think psychologically painful, remembering the attack.

But it is the first time Harry hears the cold cruel laugh. And after this, Harry's scar hurts when Tom is near, or feeling anything.

*gasp* So... perhaps Tom is quite near. This is the beginning of the whole problem Harry has with the link with Tom. I still say that it doesn't bother him in bk six because the horcrux in his head went back to Tom.

Hagrid just opened his mind to Tom..

Lunch room chats

My friend and I were chatting at lunch yesterday about all things Potter. He and I like to throw out a lot of theories. Here are some of the highlights (or lowlights, depending on your pov)

*Harry is a horcrux.. but maybe it was used when Voldie came back in book 4. And hence Harry won't have to die to kill him this time. My friend eschews this, because he feels that for the series to maintain its literary integrity, Harry must die. (I think he needs a t-shirt that says "Harry must die")

*Trelawney is really the villain. She uses her predictions of Harry's demise, etc.. to pass along info, and tries to otherwise hurt and undermine him. She is not a peripheral character at all, but eeeeevil.
Along with that thought, comes the idea that she shouldn't know ANYthing about Severus overhearing her interview. This is intertwined with the thought that Harry is usually wrong when he jumps to conclusions about Sev. From book one, Harry has made assumptions about Snape, only to have them be wrong in the end. I see his conclusions in book six the same way. Trelawney doesn't and shouldn't be able to remember her predictions. Unless she is a bigger fakir than we think. We don't think D'dore would have let her keep any memory of that whole thing intact. UNLESS it is part of the overall plot. Aberforth supposedley caught Sev and hauled him in front of Albus. Supposedly, Sev overheard the first part of the prophecy and told Tom. (I say that Wormtail overheard and told.. remember how Trelawney said it was a nasty rather infested place).. I think that that is when Sev joined up with Albus. And/or that letting Sybil know he was there was part of the scheme to let Tom think Sev was being loyal. I am sure Albus and Sev went over what to tell Tom. I am sure of it. How else does Albus know for sure how much of it that Tom even knows? Wormtail heard something,.. saw Sev there.. etc. Sev had to say something, to maintain his position.

*Hagrid is eeeeeeeeeevil too. I really liked this one for several reasons. #1, it ties in with Harry's misconceptions about people. Snape in particular. because....Psychologically, Harry is going to like and identify with the first person who saves him from the Dursley's. Hagrid broke down a door, letting Harry see that nothing could prevent him from saving him. Then he threatens and bullies them. He feeds Harry and then attacks Dudley when defending Harry's honor. This is the stuff dreams are made of for a kid in Harry's position. The only fantasy remaining might be to have his parents come take him away.
Hagrid keeps "slipping up" and dropping hints to the trio that end up getting them into some pretty grave dangers. Telling them to see Aragog, knowing his children will try to eat them. Asking them to go talk to his little brother, who HE can't even handle without getting hurt. Letting slip what the Sorcerer's Stone was.. and who Flamel was, etc.
Why did Lucius feel he needed to come all the way down to the hut? Sure, he might have been worried that Albus would find a way to let him go, but we thought, what if Lucius is on Hagrid's side? Maybe he was making sure Albus didn't do something to him. Or to pass along info. It was at that time that Hagrid sent Harry and Ron into danger by telling them the Aragog clue. Who is to say that he really went to Azkaban? Do dementors even have any effect on giant's? Magic bounces off them a lot. hmm...
Aaron (not at the lunch table) pointed out that Hagrid did all wordless magic when he got Harry from the Dursley's. He wondered if that was part of being a giant.
It could point to the fact that Hagrid is actually quite powerful and has a full wand in that pink umbrella. We only have his word that he wanted to turn Dudley into a full pig. But if he was trying to impress Harry.... a pig tail would be funny.. and not as scarey as seeing your cousin harmed and turned into a pig. Unbelievable to a kid who doesn't know about magic or wizards. Better to start small and get him to think you are on his side.. don't scare him too much.
What was it Tom said to Hagrid when he turned him in? I just re-read it. No, he doesn't say "Sorry Hagrid". He calls him Rubeus. And Hagrid calls him Tom. They weren't in the same year. Granted, according to memories we see later on, Tom was calling himself Lord Voldemort by then.. but why would are these boys on a first name basis? If people don't know each other very well, or don't particularly think much of them, they ought to go by last names. Even Harry calls him Hagrid. (not Mr Hagrid). Think of Crabbe, Goyle, Parkinson, Malfoy, etc. Harry certainly doesn't talk to them like that. Perhaps Hagrid was a Slytherin? Sure, he tells Harry that there wasn't a wizard that went bad that wasn't in slytherin. Perhaps he was talking about himself. Maybe he is proud of the fact of who Tom is. You could put that slant on it.
Using Malfoy as a reference (draco, that is).. Why would Tom, who is supposed to be touting all his pureblood mania.. be so nice to a half-giant? He KNEW Hagrid had a monster spider.. maybe they were in a club for people who raise monsters.. .. hey, why not? :-)

How many times has Sev tried to tell someone that the kids should stay away from Hagrid? I don't know.. but it is the worthy task that should be undertaken next.

Pretty much, that is what we talked about at lunch. There were a few more asides on whether Albus is evil or not.. but we were so taken with Hagrid and Trelawney... those topics ended up being the best part of it all. That and Snape is the hero. :-)

later!!

The Gleam

I was just looking at the list of unresolved issues @ Leaky. Obviously, The Gleam is something people would like to see resolution on. It struck me though..

Voldy took H's blood. That sort of makes them Blood Brothers.

Many people (myself included) are also starting to see that Harry is a Horcrux. I believe the clues have been there all along. I haven't looked yet, since I just thought about it, but doesn't D'dore somewhere tell H that the scar links him to V? etc. If so, then it seems to me that D was on that track all along. Especially in bk 5.

Supposing then.. in some fashion.. that if H has to destroy the Horcux in himself, then somehow the blood V took will be his salvation...

I can't wrap my head around it, but there is something about that Blood that makes D happy. We know he is searching for Horcruxes, even before he saw Slughorn's memory. And he started looking for them right after bk 5.

OH!! what IF... H was a Horcrux... and the reason he isn't feeling anything in his scar now.. and D is ok with him.. isn't Occlumency.. but because V USED the Horcrux, getting that piece of soul BACK already.. and now H doesn't have to do that one????

I like that idea.

Harry WAS a Horcrux.. but that piece was given back already. Hmmmm...

And The Gleam was when D figured out what it was.. and that set him on his search for the other horcrux's.

The other thought I have.. which is about Severus.. ....is that D knew the DADA job is cursed. He KNOWS it only lasts a year. S knows it only lasts a year. I put forward that the two of them were planning this all along. No, not D's death, until the whole Vow thing.. but that it would be the way for S to leave. I propose that they had a Two Year Plan.

I think no more than that, because this series was never scheduled to go more than seven books.

karlii

Snape

I do also realize that I have never finished the whole 'page 37' deal.

Oh well.

Who is Snape's mother?? Madam Pince. Who is really Eileen Prince. What made me realize it was when Harry was looking at the Potions book in the library. Madam Pince comes swooping down on them shrieking about what have you done to that book! (it is written in). The description of her is nearly identical to the description of Sev when he comes to get Harry from Tonks, after the train incident.

I can also tell you that the more I read.. the more I think it a real possibility that Harry is Sev's son.

Look at everything with an eye toward proving it, and it becomes easier to see.

Later all! maybe not so many months next time. :-)

Aaron's Ideas

OK.. so my 11 year old son has a couple things he has noticed. Usually, they are small details, but that is the kind of kid he is.

Draco used three things he found in Borgin and Burkes, in Bk 2... COS.. in HBP, to try to kill Dumbledore.. or should I say 'Albus'.. since I think we will see a Dumbledore in Bk 7.

The three things?? The necklace, the hand of glory and the vanishing cabinet. Ok.. so the hand of glory was circumspect.. but he did use it as a tool to an end.

Aaron poses that perhaps.. as Malfoy has many things of voldie's that he wouldn't want to be found.. and he DID have one horcrux.. that maybe.. just maybe.. Malfoy has the Hufflepuff cup also.

I would love it, if it was something Lucius was trying to sell to the store.. but the movie and book differ. ~I~ claim, that she has enough to say about what goes into the movie that has to stay put.. to get the point across. So in the movie, L has a box.. and you don't see what is in it, but when he says.. "That is not for sale." you can hear a clink. Granted, not in "official canon".. but hey.. it's a thought.

As long as it isn't a transfigured hair piece of hermione's. ...

37SS

Ok.. didn't want to wait.. so here it is:

"No one, it was addressed to you by mistake," said Uncle Vernon shortly. "I have burned it."

And Harry moved upstairs to Dudley's old room.
It wasn't until the Dursley's realized they were being monitored, that they did anything good for Harry's well-being. Even then, they moved him into the junk room.. probably something worthy of "Clean Sweep".

OK.. that's kind of weird.. since Harry does get a Clean Sweep.. *shakes head* It is too late to try to figure out something that bizarre.

Items of note: month old broken video camera; a kicked in television; a small working tank that Dudley ran over a dog with. (?); a bent air-rifle.. (which leads me to wonder what sort of firearms are Brits allowed to own?) and a large bird-cage.

Wonder if he gets to use it for Hedwig? But then, I sort of doubt it. A: they wouldn't have let him use it... B: he would have had to bring Hedwig home in something.. so I am thinking he bought one in Diagon Alley.

Even though they try to start treating him differently, Harry is still treated poorly, but these people are so warped, they don't know, notice or care.

This is the beginning of the beginning for Harry.

For the daughter who expected to see the treatise on snakes, boas and Nagini.. I apologize.. and say that you should help read my page numbers!!! :-) and no.. bi-focals wouldn't have helped.. I figured it out this time!! :-)

437HBP

"Now then," said Hepzibah happily, " Where's Hokey? Oh yes, there you are--- take that away now, Hokey."

And Hokey (hocus pocus?) takes away the cup of Hufflepuff.. So Hepzibah Smith (a Hufflepuff) can show Tom the locket of Slytherin. She also tells him the story about it.

Wonder what fate became of Burke??? Or did Tom, who didn't care or love anyone.. not even care about his mother getting rooked?

Now, we have seen at the end of this book what an important role this locket has and will have.

There are many things on Page 37 that come to play by the end of Bk6.

side note... if you haven't read the Draco Trilogy by Cassandra Claire... you must do so...some of my reference points will be off of that.. in the side bars.. and I wouldn't want you to get lost. Besides.. it is a GREAT story!!!!!! Suffice it to say, that if this Hufflepuff cup ends up disguised as Hermione's barrette.. I will say that Jo needs to lay off the fanfic!! LOL At the very least, read Draco Veritas.. wherein lies most of Jo's references to Cassie anyhow.

And so, for tonight, I am done adding spots about the 37's. I will start next with SS... and you will see even more, what I mean about the oddly significant info that is popping up.

337HBP

"Definitely not."

"Oh." Harry stared into the fire. "I just thought---well, he's helped me ot a lot in Potions classes, the Prince has."

"How old is this book, Harry?"

Shortly after Lupin gives him the clue to look into the past of the book.. Fleur starts singing "A Cauldron Full of Hot, Strong Love."

The kids go to bed, but Harry gets out his potions book, to see when it was published, and discovers it is fifty years old. Now.. that puts Eileen Prince at Hogwarts when Voldy would have been there. Just as a thought.

Harry dreams about creeping shadows and the cries of bitten children....

Ron wakes up on Christmas to be given the heavy gold chain to wear around his neck.. from Lav Lav.

Now... Besides the important clues about Eileen Prince having been at Hogwarts when Tom Riddle was... I think that the song Fleur sings is a very big clue to Snape.

Everything is about that potions book..
The potions book was Snape's...
Snape was loved...
"A Cauldron Full of Hot, Strong Love" = Snape.. :-)

Another time.. perhaps on Rachel and Racie's blog.. I am going to firmly discuss why I think Snape has a son somewhere.. but again.. that's another story.

237HBP

Silver and Opals

"Where was Dumbledore, and what was he doing?"

Harry wondered where D'dore was... but more profoundly, Harry wondered if he had been abandoned.

Harry's terrible childhood certainly could point to how he would feel abandoned when his mentor had been silent and absent for many days, unaccountably.

Harry ultimately WAS abandoned by D'dore... (or so it seems).

Also on this page, Harry is looking fwd to a trip to Hogsmead, and 'whiles away the time' reading his copy of "Advanced Potion Making".

Reading any sort of text book for fun (unless it is about Quidditch).. just isn't like the Harry of old. This is entering new territory for him.

Did D'dore find a way to get that book to Harry, for what it contained? The free thinking.. the making up of your own spells.. the getting to know your own talents by pushing the limit.. thinking 'outside the box'.. These are all good lessons that Harry must learn. And here he sits, reading his potions book on his own time.

137HBP

"Hello, Harry," said a girl with long hair and large misty eyes, who was just behind Neville.

   "Luna, hi, how are you?"

I want to bring in to this, just how much things have changed in a year. How much Harry has grown up. Bk5, he wanted to hide from Cho when she caught him with the very uncool Luna and Neville. This year... he gets snippy back to Romalda Vane about how these people are his friends, and he enjoys their company.

Also, if he had snubbed them, would they have had the same relationship all year? Would they have responded to the call later on in Bk6?

We all notice that it is the same six who battle here as did in Bk5... but here, let's discuss Luna and Neville.

Harry tells them that they have their 'fame' in their own right, from having fought at the Ministry.

"Cherry and unicorn hair," he said proudly. "We think it was one of the last Ollivander ever sold, he vanished the next day---, oi come back here, Trevor!"

And he dived under the seat to retrieve his toad as it made one of its frequent bids for freedom.

"Are we still doing D.A. meetings this year, Harry?" asked Luna.

Two more things of note for this page. There seems to be something significant and ominous about Ollivander disappearing right after selling Neville his wand. What huge deal is that??? We are all told that Neville isn't the one to do Voldy in... but there must be something to Ollivander waiting to sell THAT wand.

The other thing is how Luna asks about the DA. That was very important to her and Neville both. Look what it has done for them... look what they have done for Harry, et al. It was no passing fad to Luna or Neville.

37HBP

"I will," said Snape.

Bellatrix's astounded face glowed red in the blaze of a third tongue of flame, which shot from the wand, twisted with the others, and bound itself thickly around their clasped hands, like a rope, like a fiery snake.

That's the whole page. But what a lot it says.

"I will." We know, from the context of the previous pages, that he is taking a vow that he WILL help Draco.

Also, he means he WILLS it to be. Will is a very powerful word, not to be taken lightly here.

I also find it illuminating (pun sort of intended) that this scene is one that is depicted on one of the book covers. (side note... who is the fourth child on the back cover of the American version? I am going with Draco... *shrug*)

Bella is very suprised at Snape. She is astounded. Apparently, she thought he wouldn't go through with it. So he is more firmly 'set' in her eyes. AND... she is in this as much as Cissy and Sev now. I think Sev can get out of it from Voldy, but I think Draco and his mum had better make for the hills. Also, Bella is Draco's auntie, as Sev even mentions later on. She is just as far in.. so I think she isn't going to be garnering any favors from old Snake-face anytime soon. "make room.. here comes Aunt Bella!"

*shudder* LOL

637HBP

"What about him?" asked Harry heavily, slumping back in his chair.

Hermione goes on to tell him about Eileen Prince being Snape's mother. How she was married to Tobias Snape.... a Muggle.

He broke off, looking out the window. He could not stop himself dwelling upon Dumbledore's inexcusable trust in Snape. . .

Bear in mind, taking that out of context, it is a very telling sentence... or so it seems.. but in any case..

Snape was loved. Dumbledore says that that is what sets him apart from Voldemort.. (side topic while I don't want to forget it........ why does D'dore call him LORD Voldemort? Why the title??? sort of how he insists Harry, et al call Sevvie Professor?) So... Sev is loved.. presumably by his mother.
Would Snape sell out his mother? Or would he have taken his mother into hiding, as D'dore had promised Draco he would do??

This is where I noticed Page 37, as being significant. This is also where I started wondering where would D'dore hide Sev's mother?

Hogwart's, it stands to reason. So I decided to start looking into who I thought his mother might be. Please, though, this isn't the treatise on all things Snape. This is page 37... so if you are interested, please look at Rachel and Racie's blog, where we are discussing all things Snape.

537HBP.... The Beginning

The end is actually the beginning. I was actually researching Snape's mother when I realized the odd things occurring on all pages 37. Hence, I start where I began: BTW.. I do realize that 637 is really the last canon 37... but I am getting there.. come along for the ride.

...Hermione had told him off for distracting Ginny when she ought to be working hard for her examinations.
    "The so-called HalfBlood Prince."
"Oh, not again," he groaned. "Will you please drop it?"

Continuing on through the same argument they had over the broomstick Sirius sent years ago... on to the last paragraph...

Harry picked up the crumbling piece of paper and stared at tHe moving photograph, yellowed wth age; Ron leaned over for a look too. The picture showed a skinny girl of around fifteen. She was not pretty; she looked simultaneously cross and sullen, with heavy brows and a long pallid face. Underneath the photograph was the caption: EILEEN PRINCE, CAPTAIN OF THE HOGWARTS GOBSTONES TEAM.

I am sure there is more on this page, after reviewing all the others, and seeing what sort of things end up proving valuable as clues, we will come back to these two first "37" posts, and find more information hidden.
